Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command meets with Commander of the Navy

The Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), Admiral Samuel J. Paparo met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda at the Navy Headquarters in Colombo today (21 Mar 25).

Upon arrival, Admiral Paparo received a warm welcome and was accorded with a Guard of Honour by the Navy, reflecting longstanding naval traditions.

The ensuing dialogue focused on matters pertinent to enduring U.S.-Sri Lanka security partnership and regional stability and security in the Indo-Pacific. His visit also underscored the United States’ ongoing commitment to enhancing security cooperation with Sri Lanka and addressing shared challenges in the Indo-Pacific. The cordial interaction concluded with an exchange of mementoes, symbolizing goodwill and mutual cooperation.

Following his visit to the Navy Headquarters, Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command took time off to visit SLNS Vijayabahu, provided by the United States to the Sri Lanka Navy. The occasion was also attended by the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Julie Chung along with a group of officials from the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka. During his time aboard SLNS Vijayabahu, Admiral Paparo received an overview of the ship's significant contributions to combating various illegal maritime activities, including the interception of narcotics on high seas.

Meanwhile, the success of maritime security operations, utilizing Offshore Patrol Vessels provided by the United States, was also underscored, highlighting the strengthening defence partnership between the two nations.
