Chief of Staff of the Navy attends ANZAC Day Commemorative Service

The Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy joined dignitaries, veterans, and service members on 25 Apr 25 in solemn remembrance at the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) Day Commemorative Service held at the Jawatte Cemetery in Colombo 05.

The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), the High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka, H.E. Paul Stephens, the High Commissioner of New Zealand to Sri Lanka, H.E. David Pine, the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Julie Chung and Chiefs of Staff of sister services who laid floral tributes in honour of the fallen.

ANZAC Day, held every 25 Apr, marks the anniversary of the first major battle involving Australian and New Zealand troops in World War I. It also honours the courage and sacrifice of all servicemen and women in subsequent wars and conflicts.

Religious dignitaries, diplomatic corps and senior officers from the Tri-Services were also present on this occasion.
