Navy turns the tide on trash to make beaches pristine
In a move to protect marine ecosystems, the Sri Lanka Navy on 19 and 26 Apr 25 lend its support to several programmes, restoring and preserving the country’s coastlines in the Southern Province. The efforts were conducted as part of the project of “A Beautiful Beach - An Attractive Tourist Destination” of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative.
As a key partner of the “Clean Sri Lanka” national initiative, the Sri Lanka Navy pitches in with coastal cleanup programmes across the island. In continuation of these efforts, naval personnel rolled up their sleeves for these programmes which were conducted at the Galle Fort and Hambantota Beaches, following the directives of Commander Southern Naval Area.
The efforts successfully removed a significant amount of waste, including plastic and polythene debris scattered along the coastline. The Navy ensured the collected waste was responsibly disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
