Navy Commander highlights security challenges for small, middle & island states

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda on 15 May 25 delivered the keynote address at the international conference, co-hosted by the Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks (COSATT), along with the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo.

The joint international conference, held on 15 and 16 May, focuses on ‘Maritime Security of Small, Middle, and Island Nations: Between Competition, Cooperation, and Coexistence.’ Today’s session was graced by the Chief of National Intelligence as the Chief Guest, along with the Commanders of the Navy and Air Force, as well as the Army’s Chief of Staff, as Guests of Honour.

In his keynote address, the Navy Commander highlighted the need for a balanced approach, combining competitiveness with cooperation and mutual support, to ensure maritime security for small, medium and island nations.

Scholars and professionals from friendly foreign nations representing India, Pakistan, Nepal, Singapore, Bangladesh and Germany including Sri Lanka participated in the conference.
