Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Sanath Pitigala

The Sri Lanka Navy today (17 May 25) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Sanath Pitigala who relinquished his duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years in the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, along with the Board of Management of the Sri Lanka Navy, extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Sanath Pitigala was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. As the customary event drew to a close, fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, before he was sent off in a motorcade amidst the cheers of naval personnel.

Rear Admiral Sanath Pitigala joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 3rd intake of the Naval Patrolman branch in 1990.Throughout his distinguished naval career, the flag rank officer had the privilege of holding prestigious commanding positions at naval establishments. Among some of the other key appointments he held; Senior Staff Officer (Local Training), Principal Security Officer to the Commander of the Navy, Senior Coordinating Officer Naval Social Responsibility Project, Deputy Director Naval Land Operations, Deputy Director Marine, Director Marine and Commandant Naval Infantry stood prominent.
