Commander of the Navy visits Northwestern Naval Command
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, conducted an official visit to the Northwestern Naval Command from 06th to 08th Jun 25, reviewing operational readiness, administrative affairs as well as welfare and development initiatives, while addressing naval personnel on key national security priorities.
Upon arrival, the Navy Commander was received by the Commander of the Northwestern Naval Area. During his visit, the Navy Chief inspected SLNS Vijaya and its associated Naval Detachments and Deployments, engaging with Commanding Officers and Heads of Departments to assess ongoing activities. He later visited SLNS Barana, where he provided guidance to enhance operational efficiency, welfare programmes and infrastructure development.
Addressing naval personnel at both SLNS Vijaya and Barana, the Navy Chief underscored the Navy’s critical role in safeguarding national security and supporting Sri Lanka’s maritime aspirations.
In his address to naval personnel, the Navy Commander praised naval personnel for their continued commitment in upholding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and urged them to be mindful of deceptive ploys by various groups who promote separatist ideas. He also emphasized the critical importance of discipline, continuous training, and physical fitness to maintain operational readiness. Highlighting the role of leadership, he urged seniors to guide and mentor juniors to foster a cohesive and efficient force.
He further emphasized the Navy's significant role in combating narcotics smuggling, noting its efforts have been widely acknowledged. He also commended the personnel of the Northwestern Naval Command for their relentless efforts in curbing diverse illegal activities in the northwestern seas. Vice Admiral Banagoda also urged personnel to actively contribute to national initiatives aimed at environmental sustainability and social betterment, aligning with broader efforts to uphold civic responsibility and national progress. Additionally, he reinforced the significance of unwavering commitment and a strong sense of duty in upholding the Navy’s vital role in national security and maritime excellence.
In a parallel engagement, the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit visited Seva Vanitha welfare projects in the Command, including the naval preschool, welfare outlets and the yoghurt production project, reaffirming the Navy’s commitment to family welfare.
