Navy divers extend technical expertise to restore sluice gate functionality of Namal Oya Reservoir, Ampara

The Sri Lanka Navy stepped forward to provide essential diving assistance to restore the functionality of the sluice gate at the Namal Oya Reservoir, Ampara on 06 Jun 25.

At the request of the District Secretary of Ampara, the Navy swiftly responded to address the issue, following a reported failure of the sluice gate. Accordingly, a diving team from the Southeastern Naval Command was promptly rushed to the site, where the Navy divers carried out necessary underwater repairs, ensuring the full restoration of the sluice gate’s functionality.

The successful completion of this operation not only prevented a potential adversity but also reaffirmed the Navy’s capability to respond promptly to civil emergencies in support of national disaster management efforts.
