Navy empowers northern fishing community with life-saving skills

Reflecting its continued commitment towards public welfare and community empowerment, the Sri Lanka Navy in partnership with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, conducted programmes to equip northern fishing community with life-saving skills. The programmes were conducted at SLNS Elara, Naval Detachment Myliddy and Point Pedro on 05th and 09th June 2025.

The medical personnel from the Northern Naval Command lent their helping hand for the successful execution of the programmes in which local fishermen were equipped with essential first aid and life-saving techniques vital for emergencies at sea. Key areas covered also included basic first aid & emergency response, Basic Life Support (BLS), field triage, mental health awareness, addiction prevention, and Pre-Non Communicable Disease screening

Fishermen from Munnei, Kottadi, Myliddy, Palali, Kayts, Guru Nagar, Thaietti, Karainagar and Velam Kannei Fisheries Society involved in these programmes, gaining hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge.
