Commanding Officers’ Conclave: Strategic dialogue of fleet and the Commander
The Commanding Officers (COs) of the naval fleet assembled on 27 Jun 25 for the COs' Conclave 2025, a high-level discussion aimed at shaping the future direction of the naval fleet. The event, held at the Navy Headquarters, was chaired by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda and attended by the Navy Chief of Staff, Director Generals and Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet.
This annual discussion provides a platform for the Commanding Officers of the naval fleet and the Board of Management to engage in direct and in-depth deliberations on strategic, operational, and tactical matters as well as fleet readiness, training concerns, strategic communication, and Commander’s intent, aiming to enhance the Sri Lanka Navy fleet's efficiency and effectiveness in its operations.
The discussion featured a robust exchange of COs’ operational thinking, covering missions from own waters to international seas. Participants also addressed contemporary challenges in the operational environment, naval policies, and legal frameworks during the conclave. Additionally, former fleet Commanding Officers shared valuable insights from their own operational experiences with the present COs.
Aside from the Commanding Officers of the fleet, the Commanding Officer of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla was present on this occasion. The annual high-level review ensures the naval fleet's readiness stays in sync with the Navy's mission at all levels.
