Navy in collaboration with Air Force exhibits excellence in maritime operations as TRINEX-25 wraps up in Trincomalee

The Sri Lanka Navy demonstrated its operational readiness with the successful conclusion of the ‘Trincomalee Naval Exercise - 2025’ (TRINEX - 25), conducted from 22 to 26 Jul 25 at the Port of Trincomalee and in eastern waters. The concluding ceremony of the exercise was held on 27 Jul aboard SLNS Sindurala under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda.

The Sri Lanka Navy conducts this annual exercise to strengthen interoperability in surveillance and joint operations with the Air Force, while also enhancing the technical expertise, professionalism, capabilities and operational readiness of its fleet. The exercise is designed to prepare the Navy for participation in international maritime exercises, aligning with the nation’s broader maritime objectives. This year's drill involved key assets, including the Navy’s capital ships, Fast Attack Craft from the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla along with the Special Boat Squadron, the Navy Marines as well as air assets of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Meanwhile, the Navy Commander reviewed the sea phase of the exercise on 25 and 26, embarked on SLNS Gajabahu. The eventful exercise featured Miscellaneous Exercises (MISCEX), Surface Target Firing Exercises (SUFTX), Screening Exercises (SCREENEX), Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP), Flashing Exercises (FLASHEX), Gunnery Exercises (GUNNEX), Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS), Helicopter Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (HVBSS), Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX), Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) and a wide range of maritime exercises. The naval exercise concluded on 26 Jul with the traditional 'Steam Past', a ceremonial salute to the Navy Chief, marking a respectful sendoff.

At the closing ceremony of TRINEX-25 27 Jul, the Commander of the Navy underscored the critical role of this nature of joint exercises in sharpening combat readiness and deepening collaboration. He also stressed that enhanced interoperability ensures a swift and unified response to maritime urgencies. Further emphasizing the Navy’s commitment to advancing strategic preparedness in line with its operational objectives, the Commander outlined measures to support the nation’s maritime ambitions. Moreover, he commended the participating naval ships, elite SLN units and the Sri Lanka Air Force’s No. 3 Maritime Squadron, No. 4 Helicopter Squadron and No. 7 Helicopter Squadron, for their contributions, presenting them with commemorative mementos as a token of appreciation.
