Naval personnel sharpen skills in explosive ordnance disposal
The Insignia and Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Qualifying Course No. 06 was held on 27 Aug 25 at the EOD Training School in Maho. The occasion was graced by the Commandant Naval Infantry, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ranaweera, as the Chief Guest.
A total of 13 naval personnel successfully completed the course held from 17 Feb to 27 Aug. Recognizing outstanding performances, Lieutenant Commander ETMR Bhanuka was awarded the trophy for Best EOD Officer, while Able Infantryman RGSS Senevirathna received the trophy for Best EOD Sailor. In addition, Lieutenant JMK Kumara and Able Infantryman RGSS Senevirathna were recognized with awards as the top performers in Improvised Explosive Device (IED) handling.
In parallel with the awarding of insignias and certificates, newly fabricated Exploder Machines, designed and produced by the Innovation and New Ideas Cell of the EOD & BSW Training School, were symbolically distributed among Naval Commands, highlighting the Navy’s focus on innovation and self-reliance.
The Deputy Area Commander of Northwestern Naval Command, officers, sailors and family members of the naval personnel who completed the course were present on this occasion.
