Navy revamps Fast Attack Craft with indigenously designed steering control system

The Electrical and Electronic Design Centre (ENDC) of the Sri Lanka Navy celebrated a significant milestone in its pursuit of self-reliance and technological innovation with the ceremonial launch of indigenously designed Naval Steering Control (NSC) system onboard Fast Attack Craft P421. The event was graced by the Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera at the Naval Dockyard Trincomalee on 25 Aug 25.

P 421, originally manufactured in 2002, has served for 23 years with the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla. Maintaining its peak operational readiness had become a challenge due to obsolete steering control systems and a shortage of spare parts. To address this, the ENDC, at the directives of the Commander of the Navy, undertook an ambitious project to design and manufacture a new NSC system.

The project was completed in an exceptional seven-week timeframe, encompassing all stages from system programming and installation to calibration and acceptance trials. This achievement not only restores the P 421 to its full operational capacity but also represents a substantial saving of foreign exchange in government coffers.

Moreover, this achievement highlights the technical expertise, innovative capacity, and commitment to self- reliance of ENDC by developing sustainable indigenous solutions for critical operational requirements.

Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Commodore Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department (East), flag-rank officers and a group of naval personnel from the Naval Dockyard were present on this occasion.
