Sri Lanka Navy joins forces with partners in Pacific Angel 2025
In a significant demonstration of regional security cooperation, the Sri Lanka Navy participated in a Search and Rescue Open Water Operation exercise off the coast of Marawila on 09 Sep 25. The drill was a key component of the broader Pacific Angel – 2025 exercise, a multilateral initiative led by the Sri Lanka Air Force in partnership with US Pacific Forces, Royal Australian Air Force, Japan Air Self Defence Force, Maldivian National Defence Force, Bangladesh Air Force, Indian Air Force and Sri Lanka Army.
The Navy's contribution was spearheaded by its Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU) personnel, executing a complex Swift Water Recovery Operation, integrating seamlessly with a US Pacific Air Forces’ C-130 aircraft and a Sri Lanka Air Force's Bell 412 helicopter. The naval deployment also included a Fast Attack Craft, three Combat Rubber Raiding Craft and a team of SLN lifesavers.
This collaborative training is vital for enhancing regional preparedness. It provides invaluable experience in multinational coordination, directly improving the collective capacity to execute swift and effective responses to maritime emergencies and minimize the loss of life at sea.
