Navy leads the way with officials and fishing communities to discuss fishing related issues
The Navy conducted an awareness programme on 09 Sep 25, aimed at shedding light on the pressing fishing related issues in the Northern Province. The event was presided over by the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage along with officers from security forces and local fishing community.
The discussion centered on challenges faced by local fishermen, regulatory aspects, illegal fishing practices, smuggling and the importance of sustainable fishing practices to protect marine resources. Discussing at length, participants emphasized the need for close cooperation between the Navy, Coast Guard, Fisheries Department, and fishing societies to ensure a secure and productive fishing environment.
A group of senior officers from the Navy and Coast Guard, Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna, Fisheries Inspectors, chairmen representing fishing societies from across the region were present on this occasion.
