Junior Officers’ Conclave – 2025: Commander of the Navy inspires Fleet's junior officers
The Sri Lanka Navy successfully conducted the inaugural ‘Junior Officers’ Conclave – 2025’ on 14 Sep 25, at the Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda Auditorium, Trincomalee. The event, held under the patronage of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, fostered a direct and open dialogue between the Navy’s junior officers from the Naval Fleet Command.
Mooted by the Navy Commander, this conclave aimed to highlight the critical role junior officers need to play in executing a wide spectrum of naval operations. Addressing the prospective leaders in the Navy, Vice Admiral Banagoda urged them to uphold values that set them apart as exemplary leaders. Emphasizing the importance of purpose and integrity, he reminded them to clearly define what they stand for, as it is this distinction that earns respect and trust. He further advised that before embarking on any task, they must first understand how to see it through to completion with determination and discipline. Highlighting the essence of inner strength, he noted that the real challenge lies not outside but within themselves, and overcoming it is key to personal and professional excellence.
Adding further, the Commander of the Navy stressed that involving junior officers in decision-making at certain levels helps build confidence and sharpen their ability to perform effectively. He also noted that professional excellence comes through dedication, discipline, and the right leadership to successfully guide their men.
The event was also attended by the Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera and a group of senior officers from the Navy Headquarters, the Fleet and Eastern Naval Commands.
