MCPO AHD Weeratunga appointed as Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy
In a formal event held at Navy Headquarters on 18 Sep 25, Master Chief Petty Officer AHD Weeratunga was appointed as the new Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON). The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, officiated the proceedings, presenting the MCPON armband and baton to Master Chief Petty Officer Weeratunga and extending congratulations on the appointment. The appointment follows the impending retirement of the outgoing MCPON, Master Chief Petty Officer PRMJB Pussalamankada.
The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy is serving as the senior-most sailor and a vital link between the Command and the enlisted force. The MCPON is responsible for reporting on all matters pertaining to the welfare, training, and administration of sailors, and will represent the entire sailor community at official ceremonies and functions.
The occasion was attended by the Director General Personnel, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Premaratne and a gathering of senior officers from the Navy Headquarters.
