Galle Dialogue - 2025 concludes on an inspiring note and meaningful exchanges
The 12th edition of the Galle Dialogue International Maritime Conference 2025, organized by the Sri Lanka Navy under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence, successfully concluded on 25 September 2025. Convened under the theme “Maritime Outlook of the Indian Ocean under Changing Dynamics”, the conference provided a platform for informed discussions on a wide spectrum of maritime issues of regional and global relevance.
The two-day forum commenced on 24 September under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, with the participation of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, senior diplomats, defence officials, and distinguished guests. Hosted at the Wave n’ Lake Navy Hall, Welisara, the event drew representatives from 37 nations, international organizations, and maritime experts, reinforcing its stature as a premier platform for global maritime dialogue.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Commander Northern Naval Area, extended appreciation to all participants, partner institutions, and sponsoring organizations whose contributions were instrumental in the success of Galle Dialogue 2025.
Expert deliberations at the 12th Galle Dialogue highlighted that safeguarding the Indian Ocean is not the responsibility of a single country, but a shared obligation of all coastal states and maritime stakeholders who depend on its waters. Against this backdrop, the Sri Lanka Navy, through the Galle Dialogue International Maritime Conference, provided a vital platform to strengthen cooperation and partnerships. The forum enabled the exchange of perspectives on strategic approaches to address emerging maritime trends, including non-traditional challenges, while advancing shared economic interests and ensuring maritime safety and security for a stable Indian Ocean Region.
