Turning the tide on water scarcity, Navy sets up two RO plants in Matale and Anuradhapura
Two new Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, set up by the Sri Lanka Navy, were officially opened on 20 Sep 25 at Vilgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha in Matale and Sri Sambuddha Maithri Viharaya in Oyamaduwa, Anuradhapura.
The projects were made possible through the industrial expertise of the Sri Lanka Navy, with funding support from the Presidential Secretariat for the facility at Vilgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha and Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka for the RO plant at Sri Sambuddha Maithri Viharaya.
The facilities, which would provide clean drinking water to communities in and around both localities, marked the 1,132nd landmark of such plants established by the Navy across the country. This initiative reflects the Navy's dedication to community welfare beyond its maritime duties, reinforcing its efforts to provide sustainable water solutions to communities deprived of such access.
Aligned with the government’s Clean Sri Lanka drive, the Navy remains committed to ensuring access to safe drinking water for communities.
