Navy receives maritime security firearms of Onboard Security Teams for safe custody
Navy receives a set of firearms of Onboard Security Teams (OBST) on 30 Oct 25, as part of maritime security operations project to provide services and facilities to foreign Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSC).
The proceedings took place today at the OBST Armoury Complex in Galle, with the Navy formally accepting firearms, ammunition and associated equipment, as enabled by Gazette Extraordinary No. 2449/27 on 13 Aug 25.
The Sri Lanka Navy entered into agreements with local representatives of PMSCs, enabling them to store and transport OBST firearms, ammunition and related equipment under Navy's supervision and protection,
On the sidelines, the Navy engaged with key industry stakeholders, briefing more than twenty local representatives from PMSCs regarding naval facilities, safety aspects and operational procedures.
