Navy takes lead in strengthening inter-agency partnership for coastal security and fisheries governance in Northwestern Province
A meeting to address challenges related to the marine ecosystem and sustainable fisheries along the Northwestern coastal belt was convened at SLNS Thambapanni, Puttalam on 11 Nov 25, under the patronage of the Commander Northwestern Naval Area.
Fostering inter-agency partnership, the event was attended by key representatives from Divisional Secretariats, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Sri Lanka Police, Customs, Department of Wildlife Conservation, Coast Conservation and Coastal Resources Management Department, Central Environmental Authority, Forest Department and Fisheries Associations.
The meeting served as a pivotal forum for senior officials to review and refine strategies aimed at curbing illegal activities. Key discussions centered on strengthening the legal framework, naval operations and to ensure robust and lawful maritime enforcement, while promoting sustainable use of marine resources within the region.
