All Hands on Deck: Navy’s Annual Humanitarian Assistance in Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise concludes on successful note
The Annual Humanitarian Assistance in Disaster Relief (HADR) Exercise concluded successfully on 14 Nov 25 at the Disaster Management Training School of the Rapid Action Boat Squadron Headquarters, Gangewadiya.
Conducted under the theme “All Hands on Deck,” the exercise was designed to enhance interoperability and strengthen collective response capabilities during national emergencies.
The first day of training focused on building a foundational knowledge base, with subject matter experts presenting papers on critical aspects of disaster management, including preparedness, coordination, and effective response frameworks.
The Table Top Exercise (TTX) on the second day served as a strategic planning session, allowing participants to exchange ideas and refine coordinated approaches for simulated disaster scenarios.
This theoretical knowledge was then put into practice during the final day, culminating in a large-scale, joint practical exercise. Utilizing advanced training simulators, personnel engaged in realistic drills for disaster response to landslides, building collapses, and floods. The exercise showcased exceptional inter-agency coordination, with active participation from the Tri-Services, Police, Disaster Management Centre, National Disaster Relief Service Centre, Fire Department, and the Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service.
The exercise was further augmented by the support of a Bell 212 helicopter from the Sri Lanka Air Force. The closing ceremony was presided over by Commanding Officer of the Navy's Rapid Action Boats Squadron. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, recognizing their commitment and enhanced readiness.
