Navy’s essayists and orators recognized at Public Speaking and Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competitions
The Sri Lanka Navy recognized the achievements of its personnel in the Navy Public Speaking Competition 2025 and the Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition 2025 at a special event held on 20 Nov 25 at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, Navy Headquarters. The event was graced by the Director General Health Services, Rear Admiral Janaka Marambe and Mrs. Monika Fernando, the spouse of the late Admiral Clancy Fernando.
Organized annually by the Naval Research Wing, the Navy Public Speaking Competition features two categories: Senior and Junior Officers, while the Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition includes three categories: Senior and Junior Officers, and Sailors. These competitions aim to enhance public speaking and writing skills among naval personnel.
In the Senior Officer Category of the Public Speaking Competition, Lieutenant Commander BAS Wathsara clinched first place with an impressive and confident presentation, while Lieutenant Commander KG Jayasinghe and Lieutenant Commander EAIK Priyadarshana secured second and third places respectively.
In the Junior Officer Category, emerging talents; Lieutenant SV Munasinghe, Sub Lieutenant JALD Kumari and Lieutenant KL Wickraamasuriya captivated the judges and secured the top three spots.
The judging panel, comprising Director General Training, Rear Admiral Dhammika Wijewardana, Director Naval Budget and Finance, Commodore (S) PDD Dewapriya along with Ms. Zamani Nazeem and Mr. Dilanka Kumarasinghe from Toastmasters International. They mustered their laborious criteria to judge the closely contested competition.
The Admiral Clancy Fernando Memorial Essay Competition highlighted the Navy's literary talents. In the Commander or above category, Commander EDS Dissanayake, Commander DKDP Chamara and Commander BDS Tissera earned the top three positions with their insightful essays.
Similarly, in the Lieutenant Commander or below category, Lieutenant Commander KMGPL Wijesinghe, Lieutenant Commander DPRS Senawirathna and Lieutenant Commander DALP Ranawickrama stood out with their writing skills.
