Hindu Puja showers blessings on Navy’s 75th anniversary

A special Puja of Hindu tradition was conducted on 23 Nov 25 at the Sri Ponnambalawaneswarar Kovil in Colombo, seeking blessings for the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, slated for the 09 December.

The religious segment which is part of the anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy commenced with the Kanchuka Puja at Ruwanwelisaya and Flag Blessing ceremony at sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Meanwhile, the Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service was held at Cathedral of St. Lucia, Kotahena. Further, the Islamic prayer session took place at the Jummah Mosque on Chatham Street.

The Hindu Puja was conducted by the Priest Murali Kurukkal and the event was presided over by Director General Budget and Finance, Rear Admiral Achala De Silva. During the special ceremony of Hindu religious rites and rituals, merits were transferred to fallen naval war veterans and blessings were invoked on serving and retired naval personnel as well as their family members.
