Navy delivers essential aid to multiple districts to restore community life
The Sri Lanka Navy, operating across the entire island, has launched a coordinated programme to provide essential services, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, to communities affected by adverse weather. Accordingly, today (04 Dec 25), the Navy extended its relief and restoration operations across the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Mannar, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Trincomalee.
As part of efforts to restore access to safe drinking water, the Navy cleaned a total of 40 flood-affected drinking water wells. These included: 04 wells in the Moratota area of Chilaw, 10 wells in Oruthota, Gampaha, 01 well at St. Anthony's College, Mannar, 04 wells in Jayanthipura, Anuradhapura, 08 wells in Horowpothana, 08 wells in the Sangilikandarawa area, 04 wells in Haye Ela, Kagama, and 01 well in the Mahawilachchiya Eke Ela area.
In addition, Navy teams carried out cleaning and clearance work at several public and religious institutions, including the Maha Mewna Asapuwa in Kaduwela, Nawagamuwa Main Road, Sri Sunandarama Viharaya in Biyagama, Amithananda Dhamma School in Dompe, Thoppuwa Natha Viharaya and the Medical Officer of Health Office in Wennappuwa,. These tasks were undertaken by teams deployed to Kolonnawa, Orugodawatte, Pugoda, Kaduwela, Biyagama, Chilaw, Wennappuwa, Nattandiya and Negombo.
Navy teams deployed to the areas of Uthugama in Saliyapura, Horowpothana, Linda Wewa in Medawachchiya, Kagama in Ipalogama, Wankale and Mannar town, helped clean Walisinghe Vidyalaya and Swarnapali Balika Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura, St. Lawrence College, St. Lucia’s College and St. Anthony’s College in Mannar, Talaimannar Vidyalaya, Grama Niladhari Office of Pudakuduirippu and repair the Mannar Thevanampiddi road.
Furthermore, a Navy medical team conducted a health camp at the Uthurugiri Viharaya in Muthur, Trincomalee South, and since the bridge across the Mullaitivu Nayaru Lagoon had broken, the Navy also provided safe transportation facilities to the people across the lagoon.
