Navy continues nationwide support to restore lives affected by adverse weather

As part of its efforts to provide essential services, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief for communities affected by adverse weather, the Navy continued its operations today (06 Dec 25) across the districts of Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee and Mullaitivu.

Accordingly, Navy teams carried out extensive cleaning and restoration work at Ja-Ela Pamunuwa Central College, Devalagama School, Sippikalana Vidyalaya, the Galmuruwa Grama Seva Office, and several public areas in Ja-Ela, Dompe and Dankotuwa. In the Anuradhapura district, teams were deployed to Kohombagas Handiya, Horowpothana, Thirappankadawala, Medawachchiya, Sangilikanadarawa, Mahailuppallama, Mahawilachchiya, Anuradhapura Vivekarama School and the Rambewa Divisional Secretariat. Similar cleaning efforts were also conducted in Thewanpiddi Primary School, Naravikulam Vidyalaya and Nanattan Divisional Hospital in Talaimannar and Thllikudirippu Vidyalaya and Pire Vidyalaya in Talaimannar.

Also, the Navy cleaned wells in the areas and locations of Sarva Bimbharamaya in Mannar, Dematawewa area in Anuradhapura, Galnewa area in Ipalogama, Mahawilachchiya Police Station, Medawachchiya East, the Pandulagama Provincial Registrar's Office and Kohomba Gas Handiya today.

In parallel, naval personnel were engaged in multiple disaster relief tasks in the Kandy district, including clearing landslides along the Hanthana and Hatale roads. Drinking water was supplied to Theldeniya, Dunhinna, Panwila, Gampola and Gelioya, while assistance was extended to the Ceylon Electricity Board for power-line repairs in the Wattegama area. Navy teams also supported the National Water Supply and Drainage Board in laying water pipes at the Madampe Nelumpokuna Water Treatment Plant.

Further, the Navy assisted in repairing the Peradeniya railway bridge and railway tracks in the Puttalam area. Safe transportation for people and motorcycles across the Nayaru Lagoon in Mullaitivu was also facilitated. In addition, Naval personnel supported the Kandy District Secretariat, as well as the Thalathuoya and Kothmale Divisional Secretariats, in distributing dry rations and preparing relief parcels for affected families.

Furthermore, the underwater maintenance work at the Mahiyanganaya Water Treatment Plant was completed today (06 December 06) with the assistance of Navy divers, enabling the provision of clean drinking water to approximately 11,000 families in the area.
