Four (04) Indian Naval Ships arrive in island with humanitarian aid

The Indian Navy’s INS GHARIAL and 03 LCUs (Landing Craft Utility), carrying humanitarian assistance for those affected by recent adverse weather in Sri Lanka, arrived in the island on 07 and 08 Dec 25. The Sri Lanka Navy welcomed the visiting ships in compliance with naval traditions at the ports of Trincomalee and Colombo.

The handover of humanitarian aid was coordinated by the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka and the aid was delivered by Indian Navy’s LCUs; L-51, L-54, and L-57. The occasion was attended by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Hon. Wasantha Samarasinghe, government officials, Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara and Commanding Officers of the ships.

Moreover, officials from the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera and Commanding Officer INS GHARIAL, Commander Gaurav Tewari attended the handover of aid from INS Gharial.
