Navy aids in rehabilitation of schools in Badulla district
The Sri Lanka Navy is contributing to ‘Nena Diri Meheyuma’, a week-long initiative led by the Uva Provincial Ministry of Education from 20 to 27 December 2025. The initiatives focus on rehabilitating schools and pre-schools in the Badulla district that sustained damage from Cyclone ‘Ditwah’.
Acting on the instructions of the Ministry of Defence, naval personnel are providing essential technical expertise and support for renovation work across the Badulla and Mahiyanganaya Educational Zones. The Navy is currently assisting repairs at Siddartha Junior School in Mahiyanganaya, Gemunupura Maha Vidyalaya, Badaththewa Maha Vidyalaya and Pangaragammana Al Ameen Pre-school.
Moreover, the Sri Lanka Navy, a key partner in the Presidential Task Force for the "Clean Sri Lanka" national project, is contributing to the development of infrastructure facilities at selected schools across the island under the theme "A School Full of Happiness."
Further supporting the restoration of public life, the Navy has undertaken other post disaster recovery efforts. As of 23 December, these efforts have resulted in the cleaning and handing over of 1,111 drinking water wells, 108 public places, and 84 houses. These operations are continuing across affected regions.
