Navy sustains relief for flood-impacted communities
The Sri Lanka Navy has mobilized dedicated, island-wide efforts to deliver vital humanitarian aid and disaster relief to communities devastated by adverse weather.
Accordingly, naval personnel delivered critical aid to the districts of Puttalam, Kurunegala, and Mannar on 19 Dec 25. The assistance focused on the distribution of essential food and educational supplies to affected communities.
In a community partnership, the Navy facilitated the distribution of school bags and supplies donated by Ganlo Travels (Pvt) Ltd. This aid was delivered to school children in the Arachchikattuwa, Eluwankulam, Neelabemma, and Kalpitiya areas of Puttalam District; the Mahawa area of Kurunegala District; and the Pukkulam, Silawathura, and Mollikulam areas of Mannar District.
Further supporting relief efforts, the Navy responded to a request from the Wanathavilluwa Divisional Secretary by undertaking the transportation of vital food stocks from the Gangewadiya area to the flood-affected communities in Pukkulam and Palugahathurai for distribution.
In a notable demonstration of solidarity, a student group from Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Rajagiriya donated a substantial consignment of humanitarian aid to the Western Naval Command. The donation, received on 19 December, included school supplies, hygiene items, and dry rations, directly supporting the Navy’s ongoing relief operations.
