Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy
Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera has been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy effective from 23 Dec 25. The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda officially handed over the letter of appointment to Rear Admiral Ravindra Tissera at the Navy Headquarters today and conveyed best wishes to him in his new role as Deputy Chief of Staff.
Rear Admiral Tissera, a distinguished old boy of St. Peter's College, Colombo, embarked on his naval career as an Officer Cadet in the 10th intake of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy in 1992. Following his initial naval training, he was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in 1994. In 1999 he completed the Sub Lieutenant Technical Course at the Naval and Maritime Academy and later specialized in Navigation in India in 2002. Further, the senior officer completed his Naval Command and Staff Course in China and National Defence and Strategic Studies Course at National Defence College, Sri Lanka. He successfully completed the Master of Maritime Policy Degree Programme at University of Wollongong, Australia. Rising through the ranks, he was promoted to Rear Admiral in January 2024.
He has been awarded Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) nine (09) times for acts of bravery in the face of the enemy during active deployment and Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) for devotion to duty marked by exceptional ability.
