Navy assists in treatment of wild elephant with gunshot wounds
The Sri Lanka Navy provided critical support to the Department of Wildlife Conservation to facilitate essential treatment for an injured wild elephant on 04 Jan 26.
The intervention came following wildlife veterinarians arrived in to treat the wild elephant, found roaming with gunshot wounds within the Kumana Sanctuary adjacent to SLNS Mahanaga.
Responding swiftly, the Southeastern Naval Command rushed a naval team from SLNS Mahanaga and naval personnel provided necessary assistance to wildlife veterinarians, enabling them to safely administer treatment to the elephant.
The Navy continues to work in close collaboration with the Department of Wildlife Conservation and other relevant institutions to preserve the flora and fauna of Sri Lanka's natural environment.
