Navy Commander reviews vital river transit operation in Matale

The Commander of the Navy conducted an on-site observation of the naval boat service operating along the Ambanganga on 10 Jan 26. This vital service was initiated on 24 December to ensure uninterrupted public transportation following the collapse of the bridge of Ambangahga following adverse weather.

During the review, the Navy Commander assessed the ongoing efforts and provided necessary directives to further enhance the efficiency and safety of the operation. The service provides a crucial transit link for residents, including school children, between Raithalawa and Aluthwela in the Matale District. As of 11 January this community support operation has successfully and safely transported 1,850 passengers.
