Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet meets with Commander of the Navy

The Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet, Admiral Stephen T. Koehler met with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda at the Navy Headquarters today (20 Feb 26). Admiral Koehler arrived in Sri Lanka (19 Feb) on a three-day official visit.

The visiting 4-star U.S. Navy Admiral received a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Navy Headquarters, with a Guard of Honour in compliance with time-honoured naval traditions. Next, the Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet was ushered by the Navy Commander for the rest of the proceedings of the bilateral meeting, which focused on shared values of advancing cooperation in maritime security, regional stability, and to enhance collaboration and interoperability.

During the interaction, Admiral Koehler was apprised of the Sri Lanka Navy’s ongoing efforts and preparedness in contributing towards a secure and stable maritime environment, as well as its continued commitment to engaging constructively with partners in promoting the lawful and sustainable use of the oceans.

Officials from the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, the Chief of Staff of the Navy and a group of senior officers from the Navy Headquarters were present on this occasion. The discussions concluded with a customary exchange of mementoes, representing the shared values and cooperative spirit.
