Navy brings ashore crew member of JMSDF ONAMI for medical attention
With the coordination of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo, the Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore a crew member, in need of medical attention, of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) ship ONAMI, sailing in the western seas off Colombo, on 06 Mar 26.
The Navy swung into action following an urgent notification from the ship to MRCC Colombo, reporting a crew member in need of prompt medical attention. Responding to the request for a Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC), a naval craft from the Western Naval Command was immediately deployed, complete with a medical team, to swiftly retrieve the patient and ensure the rapid transfer.
Having taken him aboard, initial first aid was administered to stabilize the patient and facilitated his transfer. Upon being brought to Colombo Port, the patient was rushed to the General Hospital, Colombo for further treatment.
Coordinating with the MRCC Colombo, the Navy remains on constant vigil to provide assistance to the maritime and fishing communities in distress within Sri Lanka's Search and Rescue Region.
