Navy facilitates devout celebration of St. Anthony’s Church Festival in Palaitivu
The annual feast of St. Anthony’s Church on Palaitivu Island, Jaffna, was held with pious sentiments from 04 to 07 Mar 26. The festival concluded successfully following the celebratory Main Mass conducted by the Vicar General of the Jaffna Diocese, Very Revd. Fr. P.J. Jebaratnam.
Under the guidance of the Commander of the Navy and the supervision of the Commander Northern Naval Area, the Sri Lanka Navy played a pivotal role in providing the essential infrastructure and logistical support required for the smooth conduct of the event.
The Navy’s contribution focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of over 5,350 pilgrims. This included providing sea transportation for clergy and designated officials, supplying clean drinking water and electricity, setting up sanitary facilities, and deploying medical teams to assist those in need.
Maintaining a high state of vigilance, Navy lifesaving teams were stationed across the coastal belt of Palaithivu Island throughout the festival. This proactive deployment proved vital when naval personnel rescued a young child who was in danger of drowning while bathing in the seas off the island.
In line with the social initiatives of the 'Clean Sri Lanka' national project, the Navy’s involvement underscored its commitment to fostering religious harmony and peace. The event saw a diverse participation of clergy, distinguished guests, and a vast number of devotees across from the country, reflecting a spirit of national unity.
