Navy spearheads CBRN emergency response exercise at Hambantota International Port

In a proactive move to bolster emergency preparedness, the Sri Lanka Navy conducted a training exercise focused on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) hazards. This vital training initiative took place from 04 to 13 Mar 26, centered at SLNS Kawantissa and the Hambantota International Port premises.

Organized by the CBRN Unit of the Southern Naval Command, the programme integrated both theoretical awareness and practical drills. The sessions saw the participation of naval personnel attached to SLNS Kawantissa, alongside key stakeholders from the Hambantota International Port, including its Emergency Response Unit, Safety Section and the Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Section.

During the theoretical session, training activities were conducted on potential chemical accidents at the Dangerous Goods Yard, including the decontamination, rescue, and referral of accident victims for medical treatment, the management of spilled chemicals, and the identification of unknown chemical substances.
