Navy empowers naval families with scholarships for academic excellence of children
In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for academic brilliance, the Sri Lanka Navy organized a ceremony to award scholarships to the children of naval personnel who demonstrated outstanding performance in the G.C.E. Advanced Level, Ordinary Level, and Grade 5 Scholarship examinations. The event took place at the Navy Headquarters on 06 Apr 26, presided over by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda.
During the event, scholarship remittance cheques were symbolically presented to 13 students who excelled in respective examinations. In total, 552 deserving students were selected to receive financial assistance under this welfare programme. This initiative, funded by the Naval Welfare Fund, aims to support the educational aspirations of children of serving and disabled-retired naval personnel.
Accordingly, 42 students who secured university entrance following the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination 2024, 53 students who achieved 9 'A' passes in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination 2024 and 457 students who excelled in the Grade 5 Scholarship examination 2025 were granted scholarships, to support their education.
The Director General Services, Director General Personnel, Director Naval Welfare, officers, sailors, scholarship recipients and their proud parents were also present on this occasion.
