Sri Lanka and Indonesia celebrate rich maritime heritage with spectacular City Parade at Galle Face

In a vibrant display of maritime cooperation and shared naval traditions, the Sri Lanka Navy joined hands with the crew of the visiting Indonesian Navy sailing ship, ‘KRI BIMA SUCI - 945’, to host a colourful City Parade and Cultural Show at the Galle Face Green on 16 Apr 26.

This colorful event took place during the Indonesian vessel’s goodwill visit to the island, serving as a powerful symbol of the long-standing cultural ties and diplomatic friendship between the two nations. The parade featured an impressive contingent, including officer under-trainees from the Indonesian Navy, alongside officer under-trainees representing 26 foreign nations. Joining them were officer under-trainees from the Naval and Maritime Academy, the Sri Lanka Navy Band, and the cultural troupe.

This significant gathering aimed to further strengthen mutual understanding and maritime synergy in the region. The event was graced by the presence of Her Excellency the Ambassador of Indonesia to Sri Lanka, the Commander Western Naval Area, representatives from the Indonesian Embassy, and officers from the Sri Lanka Navy.

The festivities were also open to the public, providing visitors at Galle Face Green a rare and memorable opportunity to witness a ceremonial parade and celebrate the spirit of international naval camaraderie
