Navy leads hands-on safety workshop for local ferry operators in Northern Naval Area
In a proactive move to enhance passenger ferry safety, the Sri Lanka Navy, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, conducted an awareness programme for ferry owners and operators on 17 Apr 26. Held at the Kurikadduwan Jetty in Jaffna, the session was designed to ensure a secure and streamlined maritime transport service for the public.
The programme was in adherence to national and maritime safety regulations and it covered areas such as; safe loading procedures and passenger management, firefighting techniques and onboard fire prevention measures, as well as fundamental principles of safe navigation in coastal waters.
To further enhance safety and operational standards, the programme featured a practical training segment, providing attendees with hands-on experience in emergency response. Committed to the continuous improvement of maritime safety, the Sri Lanka Navy plans to conduct similar awareness programmes regularly to further elevate the quality and safety of passenger transport services across the island's waters.
