Navy Commander lays out key operational priorities during visit to Northern Naval Command

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda conducted an official visit to the Northern Naval Command from 01 to 03 May 26. During the visit, the Commander addressed naval personnel, emphasizing operational priorities and objectives of the Navy.

Upon his arrival, Vice Admiral Banagoda was warmly received at the Northern Naval Command Headquarters by the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage. During a briefing at the command headquarters, the Navy Chief was updated on the current security landscape, operational preparedness, and the progress of various administrative and welfare projects within the Northern Naval Area.

Addressing the senior naval officers, the Navy Commander underscored the pivotal role played by the Navy in ensuring national security and emphasized the importance of promoting lawful maritime practices in northern waters. Moving from priorities to action, the Navy Commander then shared his vision, pairing it with essential guidance to elevate ongoing naval operations and accelerate developmental projects.

Continuing his inspection, the Commander of the Navy visited several fleet units attached to the Northern Naval Command. While interacting with the officers and sailors of the fleet, he highlighted the necessity of maintaining peak performance in naval operations and training. Also, he firmly reiterated that the Navy maintains an unwavering expectation of the highest level of discipline and professional conduct from every individual.

The visit also featured a progress review of the new pier being constructed at SLNS Elara. Furthermore, the Navy Chief took the opportunity to observe the Navy’s dedicated efforts in ensuring the safety and security of the island communities in the Northern Province.
