Embarking on rewarding and honourable career new officer batch receives letters of appointment

Marking a significant milestone in their lives, a group of newly enlisted Direct Entry officers formally received their letters of appointment from the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda during a ceremony held at Navy Headquarters on 15 May 26.

The newly enlisted cohort under the 2025/01 Direct Entry intake, comprises officers (27) destined for both the Regular and Volunteer forces of the Sri Lanka Navy. Under the Regular Force, appointments were presented to male officers and lady officers across the Executive, Logistics, Information Technology, Civil Engineering, and Naval Infantry branches. Simultaneously, the Volunteer Naval Force welcomed male and female officers, specializing in the Executive branch, Psychological Counselling, and Accounting.

Addressing the gathering, the Commander of the Navy conveyed best wishes to the new group of officers as they embark on this honourable journey. He expressed gratitude to the parents and loved ones for their vital support and sacrifice in encouraging their children to step forward and serve the nation.

Reflecting on the path ahead, the Navy Commander emphasized that naval training transcends mere physical conditioning, serving as a foundational crucible to instill discipline, leadership, teamwork, and the critical thinking required to make sound decisions under pressure. He urged the new officers to approach their upcoming training with unwavering dedication, responsibility and a strong collaborative spirit.

The event was also attended by the Chief of Staff, senior officers of the Navy’s Board of Management, the Commander Western Naval Area and the families and loved ones of the newly enlisted officers.
