Navy spreads sails for cleaner shores in the North

In line with the national initiative ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ and under the theme ‘Beautiful Coastline – An Attractive Tourist Destination,’ the Sri Lanka Navy played a role in a large-scale beach clean-up campaign conducted across the Jaffna Peninsula on 23 May 26.

The objective of this timely intervention was to protect the fragile marine ecosystem, maintain a pristine and visually appealing coastline and foster a welcoming environment conducive to the growth of the tourism industry.

Demonstrating their unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, naval personnel gathered a massive volume of discarded plastics, polythene, glass and other solid waste that had littered the shoreline. All collected debris was subsequently disposed, adhering to proper waste management protocols.

This impactful community project also became a testament to collective civic duty, drawing active participation and enthusiastic support from representatives of government institutions, Army, Police environmental groups, and members of the local community.
