On completion of over 34 years of distinguished service, Rear Admiral Prasanna Hewage retired from the Navy today (27th January 2022).

Rear Admiral Sajith Gamage assumed duties as the Commander Southern Naval Area at the Southern Naval Command Headquarters on 25th January 2022.

The launching of Fast Attack Craft P 494 for service, after a major refit, was held at No. 3 Slipway in Naval Dockyard-Trincomalee on 21st January 2022. The event was presided by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias.

Defence Secretary, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne on 23rd January 2022 visited construction sites at several places of worship in Anuradhapura and Mihinthalaya. Accordingly, the progress of ongoing construction projects, carried out by the Armed Forces, at the sacred city of Anuradhapura and Mihinthalaya fell under the supervision of them.

The Southern Naval Command organized a cleaning programme in Galle beach area, on 21st January 2022.

Concluding his official visit to Sri Lanka, Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh, Admiral, M Shaheen Iqbal departed the island this morning (23rd January 2022). The Bangladesh Navy Chief arrived in Sri Lanka on 18th January, on a four-day formal visit.

Rear Admiral Saman Perera assumed duties as Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet (FOCNF) at the office of FOCNF in the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee on 20th January 2022.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne inspected the divisions at Volunteer Naval Force (VNF) Annual Camp held at the parade ground of SLNS Lanka in Welisara today (20th January 2022).

The Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh, Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal, who is currently on a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka, met with Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (19th January 2022).

Sri Lanka Navy conducted successful naval exercises with the German Navy’s FFGH (123 Class) frigate ‘BAYERN’, arrived in Colombo on 15th January 2022, and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) ships ‘URAGA’, and ‘HIRADO’ which arrived in Trincomalee on 16th January, on official visits. Having conducted these naval exercises respectively off the Western and the Eastern Coasts of the country, the ships departed the island on 18th January.
