On successful completion of their basic naval training, a total of 432 recruits successfully passed out in a vibrant ceremony held at the main parade ground of SLNS Shiksha in Poonewa on 06 Dec 25. The recruits, belonging to the 261st intake, comprised 376 personnel from the Regular Naval Force and 56 from the Volunteer Naval Force, marking another milestone in the Navy’s commitment to strengthening maritime defence. The event was graced by the Commandant Naval Infantry, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ranaweera at the invitation of the Commandant and Commanding Officer SLNS Shiksha, Captain Sagara Udayanga.

The Sri Lanka Navy on 05 Dec 25 conducted extensive humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations across multiple districts, continuing its dedicated programme to support citizens affected by recent severe weather. Working in the districts of Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee, Badulla, and Mullaitivu, naval personnel executed a wide range of tasks to restore infrastructure, provide essential services, and aid in community recovery.

As part of its island-wide disaster recovery programme, the Sri Lanka Navy on 05 Dec 25 successfully repaired and restored a damaged water supply system in the Madampe area, returning access to clean water for approximately 2,000 families.

In response to damages caused by recent adverse weather, the Sri Lanka Navy deployed teams on 05 Dec 25, to assist in repairing roadways in the Kandy District.

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) formally took delivery of the EX-United States Coast Guard Cutter, USCGC DECISIVE, provided by the United States to SLN, in a ceremony held at the United States Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore on 02 Dec 25. The event was also attended by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda. The ship formally joined the SLN fleet on 02 December under the pennant number P 628 and the main mast of the ship will fly the National Flag effective from that date.

The Sri Lanka Navy conducted blood donation campaigns at the Navy General Hospital, Colombo, and the Naval Hospital of the North Central Naval Command on 02 Dec 25. The initiatives were organized as part of the Navy’s 75th anniversary commemorations, which encompass a series of programmes that highlight the organisation’s commitment to social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and ethical values.

Accordingly, today (04 Dec 25), the Navy extended its relief and restoration operations across the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Mannar, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Trincomalee.
