Two suspects with 1289kg of smuggled Kendu leaves held in Keeramundalama, Kalpitiya
A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the beach and sea areas of Keeramundalama in Uchchamunai, Kalpitiya in the dark hours of 20th January 2025 led to the seizure of 1289kg (wet weight) of smuggled Kendu leaves. During this operation, the Navy also apprehended 02 suspects as well as a dinghy, 02 traditional boats and 02 tractors used for this racket.

The Navy's operations in 2024 yielded impressive results, bringing to justice 407 persons, both local and foreign, involved in a wide array of illegal acts such as smuggling of narcotics, prescription drugs, and contraband as well as apprehending those involved in human smuggling. These operations were conducted in close coordination with law enforcement agencies and maritime partners in the region. Meanwhile, the gross street value of narcotics and prescription drugs seized in these operations has been valued at over Rs. 28158 million of street value.

Crystal Methamphetamine worth over Rs. 3380 million and multi-day fishing trawlers seized by Indian Navy with SLN assistance brought to port of Colombo
Following a successful intelligence collaboration between the Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Navy, the Indian Navy intercepted a local multi-day fishing trawler (01) carrying a large haul of Crystal Methamphetamine, another multi-day trawler (01) suspected of involvement in the smuggling along with a group of suspects. SLNS Gajabahu escorted those fishing trawlers and suspects to the Colombo port today (02nd December 2024), for onward legal action. The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera visited Colombo port to inspect the seized haul of narcotics. The Defence Attaché of the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, Captain M. Anand, was also present during the inspection.
