Navy seizes local multiday fishing trawler with over 210 kg of heroin and hashish valued over Rs. 4728 Mn on high seas west of Galle

Based on information derived from a coordinated intelligence operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau, a drug-carrying local multiday fishing trawler was intercepted by SLCG Samudraraksha. The intercepted local multiday fishing trawler was escorted to the Dondra fisheries harbour, where the careful search with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, over 210 kg (including packages) of heroin and hashish were recovered from the trawler this morning (22nd October 2023). The special operation mounted about 91 nautical miles (about 168km) off west of Galle, also led to the apprehension of suspects aboard. The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, arrived at the Dondra fisheries harbour this morning to personally inspect the seized consignment of narcotics, which had been seized following his directives.

Navy nabs 02 suspects with about 1236kg of smuggled Tendu leaves in Puttalam

A special operation conducted by the Navy in Daluwa Beach area of Puttalam led to the apprehension of 02suspects with about 1236kg of smuggled Tendu leaves on 26th September 2023. The smuggled consignment of Tendu leaves has been prepared for distribution, when they were held by the Navy. Along with the suspects, the Navy also held a cab and a lorry from the location.

The Sri Lanka Navy took hold of a dinghy with a consignment of smuggled Tendu leaves during a special operation carried out in Wannimundalama Lagoon area, Kalpitiya on 13th September 2023. The apprehended stock of Tendu leaves weighed around 639kg (wet weight). The Navy also nabbed 02 suspects in connection to the illegal act.
