Navy takes hold of over 335kg of heroin and methamphetamine with 06 suspects in western seas

The Sri Lanka Navy mounted a special operation on the high seas west of Sri Lanka, the Navy apprehended six (06) suspects along with a local multi-day fishing trawler believed to be involved in smuggling of narcotic substances. The narcotic-laden trawler and the suspects were brought to the Dikovita Fisheries Harbour this morning (02 Nov 25).

Navy clamps down on narcotic smuggling, seizes dinghy with cannabis valued over Rs. 41 Mn

During a search operation conducted in the Delft sea area, Jaffna, on the night of 30 Oct 25, the Sri Lanka Navy seized a dinghy carrying approximately 185kg and 600g of cannabis. Two (02) suspects along with the dinghy were also taken into custody during the operation.

Navy takes hold of over 839kg of heroin, methamphetamine and hashish in southern waters

The Sri Lanka Navy continues to carry out extensive operations to curb the smuggling of narcotics into the country, in its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safer nation. Acting on credible information, the Navy conducted a special operation in the southern seas on the morning of 14 Oct 25 and recovered fifty-one (51) sacks containing 839kg of heroin, crystal methamphetamine (ice) and hashish, which had been abandoned at sea. The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) together with the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, inspected the seized narcotics upon their transfer to the Tangalle Fisheries Harbour.

Separate search operations conducted by the Navy in Vankalei, Mannar and off the Delft Island, Jaffna on 27 and 29 Aug 25 resulted in the seizure of more than 121kg of Kerala cannabis. The operations also led to the apprehension of 05 suspects and 02 dinghies in connection to the smuggling racket.

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the beach vicinity between Kudiyiruppu and Pesalai, Talaimannar on 12 Aug 25 resulted in the seizure of about 110kg and 600g of Kerala cannabis.

Suspect arrested with smuggled tobacco and medicinal products in Kalpitiya

A coordinated operation by the Sri Lanka Navy and Kalpitiya Police in the Thigali area of Kalpitiya on the night of 11 Aug 25 led to the seizure of over 379kg of Kendu leaves, 6,000 foreign cigarettes, 281,200 medicinal capsules and 1,291 medicinal injections, suspected to have been smuggled into the country. The operation also resulted in the arrest of a suspect in connection to the incident .

Two arrested in Anuradhapura with Kerala cannabis worth over Rs. 6 million

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) near the Salgadu Stadium in Anuradhapura on 04 Aug 25 led to the arrest of 02 suspects in possession of approx. 29kg and 901g of Kerala cannabis. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a car used to smuggle narcotics.
