Navy relief teams on standby to safeguard communities affected by adverse weather

Sri Lanka Navy disaster relief teams rescued twenty one (21) individuals, including four (04) women and seven (07) men who were stranded in the Jayasundara village, Gampola Divisional Secretariat in Kandy, due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

In response to the ongoing inclement weather, the Navy has already deployed Sixteen (16) disaster relief teams along with naval craft to the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Gampaha & Colombo areas to provide swift relief to affected communities.

Furthermore, 171 Navy teams, comprising approx. 700 naval personnel, are on standby to evacuate people from areas at high risk of flooding and sudden landslides, directing them to safe locations, and promptly carry out necessary relief operations.

Additionally, four (04) mobile kitchens have been prepared to ensure the rapid provision of food supplies to disaster-affected populations, with all arrangements in place to deploy these kitchens immediately as the need arises.

Sri Lanka Navy's disaster relief operations remain ongoing to protect lives and ensure rapid response to disaster situations and the Navy stands ready to provide relief to the public promptly.
