Four apprehended off Chundikulam over illegal fishing practices

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 4 individuals and seized 3 dinghies for engaging in illegal light coarse fishing off Chundikulam and Kaddaikadu on 11 September 2026.

Naval craft attached to the Northern Naval Command, together with personnel from the Veththalakerni Naval Deployment, carried out the search operation. During the raid, they intercepted the suspects along with more than 1,900 kg of illegally caught fish and 3 dinghies.

The suspects were identified as residents of Madurankuliya and Palliyavasalpadu in the Puttalam District. The apprehended individuals, the seized dinghies, and the consignment of fish were handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources office in Jaffna for legal action.
