Navy assists flood-hit communities with urgent assistance

The Sri Lanka Navy deployed disaster relief teams to assist residents affected by rising floodwaters in the Galle district following heavy rainfall across the region.

Operations began after the overflow of the Gin River submerged the Mapalagama-Pitigala main road. Thus, naval personnel stationed in the area transferred affected communities today, 24 September 2026, cross flooded sections safely.

Responding to worsening weather conditions, the Navy has deployed seven relief teams across key locations in the Southern Province, including Thawalama, Hiniduma, Mapalagama, Dodangoda, Udugama, Nagoda, and Habaragoda.
