Northern Naval Command seizes 192kg of cannabis off Gurunagar

The Sri Lanka Navy seized over 192kg of cannabis during a search operation conducted in the Gurunagar lagoon area this morning, 24 September 2026.

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Welusumana in the Northern Naval Command had mounted the operation upon receipt of credible information.

Accordingly, a suspicious dinghy was intercepted, leading to the apprehension of a suspect, seizure of cannabis packed into 88 parcels inside 7 sacks and the dinghy.

The suspect, seized cannabis and the dinghy were subsequently handed over to the the Jaffna Police Division Crime Detective Bureau for onward legal action.
